Ezekiel Ch.37:1-14 | By: George Nestertsov

Dry Bones

There are times in our life when things seem very dismal, or depressing. The sun does not seem to be shining in our lives, and the rain does not stop pouring down. The difficulties will not stop coming our way. Times like this make me look to the word of God. There is truly no other hope or security in which we could trust. All other ground is sinking sand.

In Ezekiel chapter 37, God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to dry bones. These bones were in a large valley, and there were very many bones. They were also very dry. There was absolutely no hope for them. All life was completely lost in them. These bones symbolized the rebellious nation of Israel. The nation had left their obedience to God. They started worshiping other gods and idols. This surely was an abomination to God. He was not pleased with them. God withdrew His hand of protection and blessings. Other nations conquered and destroyed many people.

When all seemed lost, God still had a plan for them. He told Ezekiel, "Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!'" Ezekiel did as he was told. There was a noise and rattling, and the bones came together. Sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over. The body was complete, but it lacked life. Ezekiel then prophesied for breath to enter each and every body. The bodies became alive and stood up to their feet. There was now an exceedingly great army standing in the valley.

The nation of Israel said " Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!" God's reply to their statement was amazing. He said, "Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel." In verse 14, He says, "I will put my Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it."

Unshakeable is is the hope that we have in Christ. Nothing shall separate us from the love of God. No turbulences in life, no failings, nothing can separate us from His amazing love. When it seems that we reached the end, God has another plan. We stop trusting in ourselves, and cast our cares upon Him, for He cares for us ( 1 Pet 5:7). Turn to Him, for He is the fountain of living waters, and He is the true bread. If we only knew what He had, we would ask Him, and He would give us of the living waters freely.  May God bless everyone reading this ,and may this bring encouragement and hope to each situation that we may face. Only in Him do we find rest for our souls.
